Education

Troy's educational needs are met by a modern, county-wide school system, which offers our children excellent educational opportunities. Elementary students attend either Troy Elementary School (K-2) or Page Street Elementary (3-5), while middle and high schools students travel only a short distance to attend West Middle School and West Montgomery High School, which are located just outside the town limits. The Montgomery County Schools are considered to be progressive, with strong technical/vocational programs offered alongside a strenuous academic program.

Health Care

One of the major resources in the town of Troy is our hospital. Sitting on a hill overlooking Main Street, First Health Montgomery Memorial Hospital more than meets the many medical needs of our community. Founded in 1950, the hospital underwent extensive renovations throughout 1991-1992.

Troy parks and recreation

Parks and Recreation

Troy is extremely proud of its local park system that includes seven separate facilities.

Capel Park, located on Smitherman Street hosts two excellent little league fields: Selby Brown Field and Dozier Field. This park serves as the home base for a thriving Dixie Youth Baseball program and was the host for the 1997 State Championships.

Peabody Community Park in south Troy is the newest park facility and boasts a neighborhood playground and two lighted girls softball fields.

Senior Services

Troy is very proud to be the home of the Troy/Montgomery Senior Center, the only facility of its type in the county. At the center, seniors participate in a wide variety of healthy aging programs. Activities include a balance of social functions, physical fitness programs, and educational presentations.

Troy public works

Public Works

Troy’s Public Works Department provides a wide range of services for our citizens. They are called upon for everything from water and sewer emergencies to picking up leaves in the fall. The Public Works Department is responsible for servicing many miles of water and sewer lines, maintenance and repair of Troy’s streets and sidewalks, and providing yard and household waste pickup. Allied Waste Industries also handles solid waste collection on a contract basis. Troy has a recycling site located in the Liberty Street Parking Lot (Behind First Bank).

The Police Department, also located at the Public Services Building 120 Broughton Street, is one of the more visible municipal departments. The Troy Police Department is currently staffed by ten full-time and six part-time officers involved in all aspects of law enforcement.

Troy Fire Department

Fire

Troy is very fortunate to be served by an outstanding volunteer fire department funded by the Town and Montgomery County. The fire station, located at 610 North Main Street, is home to the first organized fire department in the county.

The Troy Volunteer Fire Department responds to calls within a five-mile radius of the station that includes areas well beyond the Town limits of Troy.The firefighters work and train constantly to maintain a good Insurance Service Organization (ISO) rating that affects local homeowners insurance rates. The Town of Troy believes in protecting the rights of property owners, promoting quality of life, and preserving the aesthetic values of the Town. The Zoning Ordinance is a tool that we use to accomplish this. Zoning and Sign Permits are needed to be sure that citizens are in compliance with the Ordinance.
